Privacy Policy

We cherish the recipes of the past and the privacy of our community today. This page explains what information Apna Recipe collects, and how we use and protect it.

1. Information We Collect

When you join our kitchen, we collect only what we need to run the service:

  • Account details — your name, email address, and any optional profile information you add (photo, phone number, bio).
  • Content you create — recipes you submit, reviews and ratings, favourites, shopping lists and meal plans.
  • Payment information — paid memberships are processed by Razorpay, our payment provider. We record your plan and payment status, but we never see or store your card details.
  • Security data — sign-in attempts with IP address and browser details, kept to protect your account from unauthorised access.
  • Newsletter — your email address, if you subscribe to our weekly digest.

2. How We Use Your Data

Your information is used solely to run and improve the platform:

  • Operating your account, favourites, shopping list, meal planner and membership.
  • Reviewing and publishing recipes and reviews you submit.
  • Sending transactional emails (verification, password resets) and — only if you subscribed — the weekly recipe newsletter, which includes a one-click unsubscribe link in every issue.
  • Keeping the site secure: detecting repeated failed sign-ins, and letting you review your own login activity from your account page.

We never sell your personal information to third parties. That's not our tradition.

3. Cookies & Digital Crumbs

Like flour on a baker's apron, a few cookies are part of every digital kitchen. We use them to:

  • Keep you signed in (session and "remember me" cookies).
  • Protect forms against cross-site request forgery.

Where advertisements are shown, our advertising partners (such as Google AdSense) may set their own cookies subject to their policies — members with an ad-free plan don't see these ads. You can decline cookies in your browser settings, though signing in requires the session cookie. For full details see our Cookie Policy.

4. How We Protect Your Data

  • Passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing — we cannot read them.
  • Accounts lock automatically after repeated failed sign-in attempts.
  • You can sign out of all other devices at any time from your account page.
  • Administrative actions on our side are recorded in an audit log.

5. Your Rights

Your personal recipe box belongs to you. At any time, you may:

  • Access and update your profile details from your account page.
  • Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any issue.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us — published recipes can be removed or anonymised on request.
