Savory roasted semolina cooked soft with mustard, curry leaves and vegetables.
Rava Upma brings savory roasted semolina cooked soft with mustard, curry leaves and vegetables. Serve it hot with the usual chutney, sambar, yogurt or pickle and it becomes a complete breakfast.
Follow along step-by-step.
Dry-roast semolina on low heat until it smells nutty but does not change colour; keep aside.
Temper mustard, urad dal and curry leaves, then sauté onion, ginger and vegetables.
Add water and salt and bring to a lively boil.
Lower the heat and rain in semolina while stirring constantly; cover for 3 minutes and fluff.
Roasting the semolina first prevents a sticky, pasty upma. Nutrition values are approximate per serving.
